Two instances of the discovery of human remains are recorded: one in 1940 and a second in 1957. The 1940 find was on the site of the Munster and Leinster Bank at No. 7 Dame Street, but as the bones were disturbed and no associated artefacts were found they were not retained by the NMI. In December 1957 human remains were found at No. 12 Dame Street.70 Two skulls were visible at the time of inspection and no other bones were found. The bones had been unearthed during the removal of the clay floor of what had been a basement room. The remains lay at a depth of 0.076m below ground level. They were not acquired by the NMI but were sent to the city coroner.
